Carran is Covington's first female mayor

COVINGTON, Ky. (AP) - The first female mayor in Covington says she doesn't view herself as a politician.

Sherry Carran told The Kentucky Enquirer that she gave up studying city planning in the 1970s because she didn't want to participate in local politics. She decided to pursue architecture, but ended up serving in local politics anyway. After serving as a city commissioner in Covington for six year, she took the position of mayor this year.

The newspaper reports she is the first female mayor of Covington, which is northern Kentucky's largest city.

Carran describes herself as "a community activist" instead of a politician, and she has a reputation of caring and commitment to improvements that will increase the quality of life for residents.
