LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Police are looking for a bold criminal who they say had a hard time making a clean get away.

The crime happened around 10:30 Thursday night outside the Speedway on Nicholasville Road. Lexington police say two women pulled up outside the store and the driver went inside. That's when they say a man wearing a bandana jumped in the back seat of the car, put a gun to the passenger's head and demanded money.

The victim said she grabbed the barrel of the gun and began screaming. She then threw money at the gunman before getting out of the car. The suspect tried to run, but police say the child safety locks on the cars rear door were on. In a panic, the victim says she opened the door from the outside to let the man out before calling police.

Police say the gunman got away with less than $20.
