LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Kentucky freshman Willie Cauley-Stein is doubtful to play at Auburn on Saturday, after undergoing a minor procedure on his knee.
UK coach John Calipari said on Friday that it was a result on an old injury and that Cauley-Stein did not practice.
"We have been dealing with Willie for a while. Again, it was an injury - I hate to tell you - since junior high school," Calipari said.
Calipari said other guys, like Jarrod Polson and Jon Hood, need to come ready to play.
"Thank God it was nothing major. You get dings and bruises in this thing. You get hit, kicked, bumped, come down wrong on an ankle. I mean there's all kind of stuff that happens in this game. Some guys, you've got to miss it, you miss a game or two."
With Cauley-Stein, the Wildcats would have held a decided height advantage inside.
"That's why it would have been better for us to have another big guy. Again, we're presuming he's not going to play. But (Auburn's size is) the reason you look at this and say that size helps you in this kind of game," Calipari said.
Cauley-Stein had started the Wildcats' last five games and is averaging 7.6 points and 5.8 rebounds in nearly 21 minutes per game this season. His 31 blocks rank third in the SEC.
The game at Auburn Arena is sold out. It will be televised on ESPNU, beginning at 9:00 p.m.
