Centenarian presented with key to the city

It isn’t every day that you turn 100 years old, and it’s even more rare when the Mayor decides to present you with the key to the city.

But for 100-year-old Katie Brown, affectionately known as Ms. Katie at Hometown Manor of Georgetown where she currently resides, both of these things happened at once.

The momentous occasion was celebrated on Sunday complete with all the things a woman of 100 could ask for. There was music from the 40s and 50s, a poem recited by her son-in-law, a slideshow of her life, lots of treats, and of course the presentation of a golden key to the city by Mayor Everette Varney of Georgetown.

Brown's family traveled from several states to be present at her centennial birthday celebration.

Brown, who has lived at Hometown Manor of Georgetown for the past 8 years is originally from Bainbridge, has two children and loves Russell Stovers chocolates and crispy bacon.
