Central Kentucky cooling program needs help

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) -- Summer is just getting started, but a program that helps folks stay cool could soon end without donations!

The Community Action Council's Summer Cooling Program loans out air conditioners to low-income families.

The program has loaned out 10 air conditioners already, but only has six left.

Organizers worry they'll run out of AC units unless they receive some help.

"We're just in desperate need for the community to come out and help us help our neighbors who are sick, who are elderly, who just need these units to survive," said Malcolm Ratchford.

Organizers say a $100 donation is enough to put an air conditioner in someone's home.

Donations are accepted online, by check or money order or in person at any of the locations across Lexington-Fayette, Bourbon, Harrison and Nicholas counties.

Checks are made payable to Community Action Council. Please indicate that the donation is for the Summer Cooling Program. Donations are tax-deductible. Please mail donations to: Community Action Council, P.O. Box 11610 Lexington KY 40576.
