MILLERSBURG, Ky. (AP) - A central Kentucky mining equipment plant is laying off 150 employees by October.

The Joy Global plant in Millersburg in Bourbon County makes original equipment feeder breakers, parts and components. The company said the work will be moved to a plant in Longview, Texas. State records show it has been in operation since 1953.

Vice President of Marketing Mark Finlay said that with the closing of mining sites in the area, the Milwaukee-based company is reviewing all its plants. He said the company expects to maintain a presence in Millersburg, with 37 employees remaining in engineering, sales and marketing.

The company laid off more than 80 at its Lebanon plant last year.

Bourbon County Judge-Executive Donnie Foley said the layoffs will be "devastating" to Millersburg.
