GEORGETOWN, Ky. (AP) - A central Kentucky school district says it has passed the $1 million mark since implementing a plan three years ago to become more energy efficient.
Jim McClanahan, who is energy manager for Scott County Schools, told the Georgetown News-Graphic that the district crossed the mark a few weeks ago after adopting new habits such as turning off lights and furnaces when they aren't in use.
In addition, the district was able to quality for some reductions in electric rates, and currently 10 of the 11 schools are rated as "energy-star" schools, which means their efficiency in using and not using energy has increased.
McClanahan says the eleventh school is still working on earning its rating.
