Championship floor arrives in Lexington

Updated: Wed 7:58 PM, Sep 12, 2012

Northwestern Mutual, a corporate partner with the NCAA, turned over the keys to the truck containing portions of the championship floor to UK Coach John Calipari in a ceremony of sorts Wednesday morning.

Dan Rivers, with Northwestern Mutual, said they decided to donate to the floor to the university to pair up with Coach Cal's fundraising ability.
The goal is to auction off one thousand pieces of the floor, signed by Coach Cal.
The proceeds will go to non-profit charities in Kentucky, as well as aid in the fight against pediatric cancer.

"Dan has stepped up to say, look, I want to use this for charity, I want to use it for you guys. I want this thing to really, what we paid for it, I'd like to get a hundred times out of it," said Calipari.

The remainder of the floor, will be for the players to enjoy.
It will be used in the renovations currently underway in the locker rooms.

The details of the auction, and how you can own a piece of the championship floor, will be released in a few weeks.
