LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A two-year-old boy is recovering Saturday night after police say he was accidentally shot by his four-year-old cousin.

It happened around eight o'clock Saturday night on Devonport Drive.

Lexington police tell us the four-year-old accidentally shot his two-year-old cousin, and now they are questioning adults who were in the apartment when the shooting happened.

"I saw the blood coming off his arm. It was pretty devastating," said James Clax, a neighbor.

Police tell us they received the call before eight o'clock that a toddler had a bullet wound in his arm.

"I saw the mother bringing the child up the stairs and screaming and yelling like, 'My baby's been shot!'" said Clax.

Several neighbors gathered outside as police arrived on the scene.

"I came outside and everybody was in panic and everybody had this really shocked look on their face. I was wondering what was going on," said Clax.

Lexington police say Lavonne Smith, 19, is in the Fayette County Detention Center, charged with tampering with physical evidence and carrying a concealed, deadly weapon. Police say he was at the apartment at the time of the shooting.

The two-year-old boy was taken to UK Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
