Child injured in Marion County tornado

MARION CO, Ky. (WKYT) - Admist the damage and destruction, some are talking of miracles.

“The Lord was looking over them,” says Rick Shively, looking at the damage that his neighbors, Jeremy and Pam Colvin, took in early Wednesday morning.

Many of the family of 5 were asleep when the tornado touched down and shook the home from its foundation.

“Right after it hit the roof, in a second went black, started ripping apart,” said Jeremy Colvin.

Colvin says his son Tyler was thrown from his bed..and ran to a neighbor’s house for help.

“When he heard it, he tried to take off running, and through there, it threw him to where we were at,” Colvin said.

Tyler received several dozen stitches in his leg while his family counts their blessings it wasn’t any worse.

“I don’t see how any of them made it out,” said Shively.

The National Weather Service Confirms it was a tornado, an EF-0, with winds of 80 to 85 MPH.

Meteorologists inspecting the damage say the twister was only one the ground for a matter of seconds.

“It really threaded the eye of the needle, between 3 homes here, took out the middle one and left the other 2 unharmed,” said Joe Sullivan, a Warning Coordination Meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Louisville.

Emergency officials say they received no other reports of damage.
