Church group plans to picket Ky. pastor's funeral

BELL COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - On Saturday, Pastor Jamie Coots was bitten by a rattlesnake during a service at his Bell County church.

He refused treatment, and eventually died from the bite.
Since the news of his death, the controversial Kansas-based Westboro Baptist Church tweeted that they would picket the pastor's funeral, which will be held later today.

Entertainment news outlet TMZ is reporting that the family will not kill the snake that bit Coots, and will instead bring the snake back for this Saturday's service.
The victim's son Cody Coots will take over leadership at the church.

TMZ is also reporting that Middlesboro Police Chief Jeff Sharpe is refusing to prosecute, while acknowledging that it is illegal to display venomous snakes in religious services in Kentucky.

TMZ says the police chief told them that he believes the "government doesn't have any business meddling in religious affairs."
