The City Of Harrodsburg Water Plant is asking customers of the City Of Harrodsburg, including North Mercer, Lake Village, and City of Burgin, to begin utilizing a voluntary water conservation.

City officials say this is a good time to look for ways to conserve water indoors like repairing leaky toilets and faucets, moves that will also cut down on your bill.

Officials at the Harrodsburg Water Treatment Plant tell us under normal circumstances the plant shuts down operations from 1am to 6am, but because of recent conditions, they've had to operate 24 hours a day for the last couple of weeks. They hope success with voluntary conservation will prevent the need to issue a mandatory call.

The order issued Tuesday is only voluntary. The supervisor says he hopes the request creates less usage, creating relief for operations.

The conservation request is effective immediately and lasts until further notice.
