History buffs re-enact 150th anniversary of Civil War battle

BOYLE COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Thousands of history buffs are flocking to Kentucky this weekend for a truly one-of-a-kind event that's reached a major milestone this year.

Our crews were right in the middle of the action at today's the Battle of Perryville.

On this 150th anniversary, the Civil War jumped from history books to the fields in Boyle County.

Over 2,000 re-enacters traveled from all over the country to bring the battle scene back to life, many with years of experience.

Gary Carpenter says reenacting is a dream come true.

"I always played with little soldiers. I always played in the background. But when I saw grown men firing, you know firing original muskets...I knew that was for me and I kept it up ever since," said Carpenter.

This civil war re-enactment is the largest in the state and is expected to draw in a crowd of 10,000 people over just two days.
