WINCHESTER, Ky. (WKYT) - A veteran mechanic at the Clark County school bus garage had to be taken to the hospital after a bus he was working on started rolling.
Around 8:30 Wednesday morning, Clark County school officials say Ray Davis was working to fix an air leak under the hood of a bus, when it started rolling out of the garage.
Officials say Davis tried to stop it from moving with his arms, but couldn't. The bus ended up pushing Davis into a wall, injuring his upper torso and chest.
The bus continued to roll into the garage door, damaging it, then hit another parked bus about 30 feet away.
School officials believe the emergency break wasn't set correctly or somehow came loose.
"After a while, they'll kick on and get momentum," says Paul Columbia, Clark County School Director of Operations. "Even if they're idling in neutral, eventually it'll kick in and start rolling without the break being set. He had a short time to work on it without it moving."
Officials say Davis is expected to be okay. He was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.
