Classes in Lincoln County set to start Wednesday

LINCOLN COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) Educators are working to start the school year on Wednesday in Lincoln County after a fire destroyed part of it's central office.

As officials try to make sure the first day goes smoothly in Stanford, the community is pitching in to help as well.

Last Wednesday, a fire destroyed half the board office and caused school officials to delay the start of the new school year. School administrators held a meeting Tuesday morning to make sure all the bases were covered.

The fire destroyed the technology hub, which coordinates everything from attendance to school lunches. A new hub was donated by some other school systems, and that hub is now up and running.

Preschool will not start until later, but when it does, the community is hoping to equip those youngsters with supplies lost in the fire. The Lincoln County Public Library will take part of the fines that people owe to help buy supplies. The Morehead Fire Station and Lincoln County Station 3 is also accepting donations.

The fire remains under investigation by the fire marshal and state police. School officials say they have not been made aware of a cause yet.
