Clerks tied up during Frankfort pharmacy robbery

Updated: Wed 7:19 PM, Dec 26, 2012

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WKYT) - Frankfort Police say two robbers who stole money from a Rite Aid store were unusually bold.

"It is not the typical enter and grab the money type robbery," said Major Fred Deaton of the Frankfort Police Department.

Police say two men came into the Rite Aid in the Eastwood Shopping Center around closing time Friday night. As one man closed the security door so no one could see in, the other headed for the counter with a gun.

"He forces the victim clerk to the floor in the area of the register and safe. Before they leave the store, they bind both clerks with zip ties and leave the store with an undetermined amount of cash," said Deaton.

Police say Crimestoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that helps solve the crime, but Rite Aid has taken the unusual step of offering a reward of their own.

"Rite Aid themselves has offered an additional $5,000 of reward money. In fact in quite some time, that's the first instance that I remember, particularly on a robbery of this sort," said Deaton.

Police hope someone comes forward to identify the robbers before they strike again.

"From their actions in this crime, we want to apprehend them as soon as possible because there is definitely a threat of potential violence and we feel that these individuals actually threaten the safety of the community," said Deaton.

Police are searching for a two white men. One is about 5'10" and was wearing a camouflage mask, green coat, and dark pants. The other is around 5'8" and heavyset wearing a black mask, tan coat, and dark pants.
