Today begins Coal Miners' Appreciation Week in Kentucky.
State Representative Rick Nelson proposed the bill designating the third week of August to show appreciation for coal miners.
It became law in June. The purpose is to highlight, support and applaud the men and women who work in coal mines.
Coal Miners' Appreciation Week continues through Saturday.
