Rounds of showers and storms continue to push across the region. Flash flooding is the main threat tonight into Wednesday.
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Lexington firefighters are no strangers to water, but lately, it's been helping one of them out more than usual. Firefighter Joe Vissing is going through cancer treatment for melanoma.
"The radiation's done. I started my pill treatment last week and hopefully going to start seeing good results from that soon,"
Vissing isn't facing the battle alone, though. Friends and strangers have been donating to his family through the cold water challenge. People creatively take a plunge, pledge $10.00 to the charity of their choice, then call out three of their friends to do the same. One of the first was Vissing's brother and it's just grown from there. Even strangers are joining in.
"I was checking out and the guy noticed my name and he said, 'Joe Vissing...Cold water challenge Joe!' and I was like, 'Yeah,' and he said, 'I did it for you,' and I was like 'Are you kidding me,'," Vissing said.
While donations keep pouring in, Vissing says the real treasure is the joy each video brings to him and his family.
"Don't know where it started. Don't know how far it's going to go. I'm just extremely grateful for everything," Vissing said.
Vissing's supporters will hold a charity golf scramble for him at Connemara Golf Course in Nicholasville on Friday.
