Demolition on part of a collapsed western Kentucky bridge is on hold until a final salvage plan is reviewed and approved.
U.S. Coast Guard Lt. Ron Easley says the final plan is close to being done and a review of it usually takes a few days.
Klenck Company of Evansville, Ind., is set to demolish a span of the Eggner's Ferry Bridge near Aurora lying across the bow of the Delta Mariner in Kentucky Lake. Company spokesman V. Nicholas Funke told The Paducah Sun that the plan is to sheer the steel trusses away from the sides of the boat.
The boat hauling rocket parts struck the bridge after dark on Jan. 26, pulling away part of the span. The cause of the collision is under investigation.
