Community mourns fallen Marion Co. deputy

MARION COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) -- News of the death of Marion County Sheriff's Deputy Anthony Rakes spread quickly through Lebanon.

"He wore the uniform proud, done his job like he was supposed to," said Don Web, who was delivering flowers. "That's all you can ask."

People wishing to honor the six-year veteran deputy, a man who had also served with the Lebanon Police Department, placed flowers downtown for him. We also saw several flags flying at half staff.

"We'll all pull together on something like this," said Webb. "We respect our law enforcement officers, we respect our military. That's what it's all about."

Deputy Rakes was known throughout the county.

"I work in Campbellsville and they've been talking about it in Campbellsville," said Samantha Benton, who learned of the deputy death while at work.

Many shoppers and shop owners told us they're just trying to make it through their day. They're going about business as usual with heavy hearts.

"I hope everybody can mourn through it because we've had a lot of stuff going on in Marion County and seems like a lot of tragedies just keep happening," said Benton.
