MOREHEAD, Ky (WKYT) - She was in a position of trust. Holding two leadership roles in Rowan County.

But now, the Executive Director of the Morehead Tourism Commission and 'Morehead Tomorrow' is off the job accused of stealing tens of thousands of dollars from her former employer.

According to a grand jury indictment filed in Rowan Circuity Court last week, Terri Cline Alderman, 48, took cash from the 'Morehead Tommorrow' program, while she was an employee. Kentucky State Police say Alderman stole a total of $74,212 between July 1, 2004 and Jun 30, 2012.

On Tuesday afternoon WKYT received a joint statement Issued by Morehead Mayor David Perkins, Morehead Tomorrow Board Chair Robin Mirus and Tourism Chair Keith Kappes.

STATEMENT:

"Last Friday's indictment of Terri C. Alderman for theft by unlawful taking over $10,000 was the result of a Kentucky State Police investigation requested by our organizations after we discovered what appeared to be misappropriation of funds from Morehead Tomorrow, Inc."

It went on to say, "Ms. Alderman resigned her position on June 20 after being confronted with the apparent misappropriation of funds entrusted to her care in dual management responsibilities with tourism and Morehead Tomorrow. She had held those positions of trust since 2006."

"It has been determined that the allegations against Ms. Alderman do not involve any funds of the Morehead Tourism Commission. The members of the Morehead Tomorrow Board of Directors, with the full support of Mayor Perkins, intend to recover all of the money which is missing. Further, we expect Ms. Alderman to be held fully accountable by Kentucky's judicial system," the joint statement continued.

"Morehead Tomorrow, Inc., will continue its efforts to enhance downtown Morehead by sponsoring successful events like the Arts and Eats Festival and Hometown Holiday and to improve the downtown environment with physical changes like the Streetscape projects on Main and First streets."

Alderman is charged with Theft by Unlawful Taking, over $10,000, which is a Class C Felony. According to the Kentucky Revised Statutes (KRS. 532.060) Someone charged with that offense, can be sentenced to no less than five (5) years in prison, or, no more than ten (10) years.

Our efforts to contact Ms. Alderman for comment, were unsuccessful. She will appear in Rowan Circuit Court next week on a 'Criminal Summons.'
