Community raises thousands for Madison Co. accident victim

RICHMOND, Ky. (WKYT) - Friends and family say Matt Thomas, 24, is now paralyzed from the chest down. He crashed his motorcycle on June 29, on Barnes Mill Road in Richmond.

We're told he was an avid motorcycle rider, and was wearing a helmet and protective gear. His friends say if he wasn't, he would have been killed.

Thomas is now at UK Hosptial's Intensive Care Unit.

Gary Thomas says his son's morale is improving.

"We encouraged him. A lot of people are praying with him. We've got his head straight," said Gary Thomas.

Matt's friends started a fundraising campaign in his name. More than $3,500 were raised so far, this week.

"We're just trying to make the transition for him and his family as easy as possible," Austin Martin told WKYT.

Gary Thomas describes his son as a bright young man, that has a bright future.

"There's always hope no matter what the doctors tell you. You have to find hope. We have that in our faith," explained Thomas.
