Community remembers young murder victim
PARIS, Ky. (WKYT) - Saturday is a somber anniversary in one Kentucky community.
Six-year-old Wesley Mullins was murdered on August 4, 2007. According to Paris Police, Mullins was sexually assaulted, brutally murdered and then hidden in a garage on his grandfather's property.
"It doesn't seem like five years. I think about this year round. Of course, being a board member of Wesley's Place, we meet quite often. But this time of year it just tugs at my heart, even heavier than normal," said Tim Gray, the former Paris Police Chief.
That spot where Mullins' body was found is now where Wesley's Place stands, in the six-year-old's honor.
"As a community we will never forget Wesley," Gray said. "We are looking at the positive side, to do something good from something so bad."
On August 25th community members are welcome to attend a town hall meeting at Wesley's Place from 4-8p.m. It will be a time for folks to offer new ideas for Wesley's Place, and celebrate his life. He would have turned 12 on September 1st.
A jury convicted Lewis 'Buck' Ballard of Wesley's murder. He is serving a life prison sentence with no possibility of parole.
