GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WKYT) - Construction is now underway on the future home of the first U.S.-produced Lexus.
Toyota in Georgetown celebrated the milestone of the first steel column being put in place at the future assembly line Wednesday. Toyota leadership signed the structure.
The company announced last April of the production of the ES 350, which has always been assembled in Japan. The assembly generates 750 new jobs in the bluegrass, and Toyota is investing $360 million in its Georgetown plant. Production of the car is set to begin in the fall of 2015, and plans are to assemble around 50,000 units in Georgetown each year.
