Copper theives hit local business

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A business is dealing with a flooded basement all because of copper thieves.

We're told the theives cut a water line while stealing copper from several businesses along West Maxwell.

Shambro La Bookstore and Gallery is the businsess that ended with water in the basement.

It's been closed since the owners found the damage on Monday.

"It's caused us a lot of complications too. We don't have any revenue and we're still paying a monthly lease," said Mick Shambro, who runs the business.

Police say the copper stolen doesn't amount to much money but the damage is significant.

Two other businesses next door were also affected by the theft.
