CORBIN, Ky. (WKYT) - CORBIN, Ky. (WKYT) - There’s a lot of shock and disbelief over the damage that police now say was caused by one person.
“You know, that they would come in and basically burn down the whole building. Over a few hundred dollars,” said Corbin Ice Company Co-owner Greg Botner Friday, after hearing of the arrest earlier that day of Joshua Stevenson.
Stevenson, 22, allegedly broke into Corbin Ice Company on several different occasions, and during the second time he is accused of setting fire to his employer’s office. Botner said he worked there for about a month as a ‘general laborer.’
Police say Stevenson has dealt with abuse from narcotics such as Oxycontin, ‘
“He actually broke in twice, the second time he was actually under the influence,” said Corbin Police Major Rob Jones.
Police estimate Stevenson caused more than $1 million in damages to the ice business, which was remarkably not destroyed
“All of our employees are working their regular schedules. No one has been laid off. Hopefully we’ll be back up and running in a few months,” said Botner.
Police say Stevenson confessed to both breaking into the business, and setting it on fire.
“He actually broke in, went and got some things, some drugs. He got high, and thought, ‘there’s some other things I can get,’ he went back and broke in again, and that’s when the fire started,” said Major Jones.
Stevenson remains in jail where he declined a chance to give his side of the story.
