LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says it plans to raise the water level in Lake Cumberland by about 20 feet this summer as a massive repair project on Wolf Creek Dam progresses ahead of schedule.

The corps says work to install a barrier wall is on track to be completed by early this spring, ahead of the prior completion date of December. The barrier wall is the most crucial part of the nearly $600 million repair project.

With the work ahead of schedule, the corps plans to raise the water level in the southern Kentucky lake to an elevation of 700 to 705 feet. That's still below the usual peak lake level of 723 feet in summer.

But marina operators will be pleased with the higher lake level.schedule.
