County Clerk DUI case continued to October

POWELL COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Police say Barnett backed a truck into a car while parking between the jail and the courthouse.

When officers confronted her, it appeared that Barnett, the County Clerk, slurred her speech and had trouble keeping her balance.
She submitted blood and urine tests, but WKYT learned in court Tuesday morning the results have not come back.
Michael Eubanks, one of Barnett's attorneys, says he believes his client was not impaired when the accident happened.

"She divulged that she does take prescription medication, but we're comfortable that medication will come back within therapeutic limits. And if it does, what that means in layman's terms is there's no impairment," said Eubanks, a partner with Shumate, Flaherty, Eubanks and Baechtold P.S.C.

As for Barnett, she is still fulfilling her role as the Powell County Clerk.

"There's no reason for her not to. So, she'll continue to do her job efficiently and effectively as she's always done, and we'll wait as the process unfolds," Eubanks said.

Another court date was set for late October.
