Everyone we talked within Cynthiana Thursday says they'd take snow over ice any day of the week. Harrison County schools called off class Thursday because of the amount of snow, and businesses were slow to open.
Road crews in Cynthiana spent the day scraping and salting while businesses downtown slowly opened up shop, determined to bring in snow day shoppers. "These last two weeks for us are always the busiest time and I told my employees, don't risk you life to come in, take your time" says Charles Nigg of Chase Jewelers.
County Emergency Management crews reported a few cars slipping on the roads Thursday morning, but for the most part they say the four to six inches that covered the county were cleared to the sides of streets fast.
Shop owners that did choose to open Thursday, just delayed the start of their work day by a couple hours. They had to scrape sidewalks and patiently wait for customers to brave the cold to continue Christmas shopping.
"Usually this is a busy time of year for Christmas shoppers and the holiday shoppers, poinsettias and things like that" says Stephanie Burden of Flower Depot. "When you have snow and you don't see anybody that's kinda a scary thought."
Road crews are continuing to scrape snow to the sides of the road. Harrison County's Emergency Management team says Interstate 27, one of the main roads running through Harrison County, is in good shape.
