Arrest made after bomb threat at courthouse

Updated: Tue 9:01 PM, Sep 11, 2012

Danville, Ky. (WKYT) - It was tough for some getting around parts of downtown Danville Tuesday morning.

“What upsets me is all the people who do business and plan to do business..and if you have business at the Boyle County Courthouse, you can’t do it anywhere else,” said Boyle County Judge-Executive Harold McKinney, who had to postpone a Fiscal Court meeting because of the threat.

The caller said the bomb would go off at 10 a.m….and officials took it seriously..and evacuated the building….and closed off several streets.

“You’re looking at probably $1500…an hour to do all the work that needs to be done,” said Sheriff Marty Elliott in describing the work first responders, police, and others were conducting in the wake of the threat.

Just after 11 a.m police gave the all clear….and they announced that Monty Bryant was in custody.

Donna Pendergraft says Bryant was in her Subway store, which is located across the street from the courthouse. She saw police arrest him.

“He was very quiet…he didn’t resist. He acted like he was a man in trouble,” Pendergraft said, who said Bryant sat in her store and watched police work the evacuation from a table..then watched them 'watch him' before his arrest.

Police say Monty Bryant was supposed to be in court Tuesday morning on a DUI charge. Now he’s in jail charged with terrorist threatening.

And officials are confident he’ll be prosecuted to the full extent of the law…for the problems he caused on a day when threats are taken more seriously now because of what happened 11 years ago.

“It just shows that from 9/11, if there is a bomb threat involving a government facility, it is now taken very, very seriously,” said Elliott.
