Covington cracking down and cleaning up

COVINGTON, Ky. (AP) - The largest city in northern Kentucky is cracking down on blight.

The Kentucky Enquirer reports new regulations requiring landlords to obtain city-issued rental licenses will take effect next month. The regulations also would allow city inspectors access to property that isn't well-maintained. If violations are found, property owners would have 30 days to fix it or face a possible license suspension.

Blight is a big issue in the city, where about 50 percent of homes are rental properties.

While city officials say they think the measures will improve the area, some landlords say it punishes all of them for the inaction of a few.
