COVINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Covington is moving aggressively to combat blighted properties all across the community by demolishing dozens of vacant buildings.
City officials tell The Kentucky Enquirer (http://bit.ly/XIC9jS ) that in the coming weeks, approximately 29 privately owned and 22 city-owned residential properties will be torn down by the Community Services Division, formerly known as the codes enforcement department.
Community Services Manager Mike Yeager said all of the privately owned properties have been vacant and abandoned for years and have become targets for break-ins. Once the structures are gone, the city will work with local neighborhood groups to decide the best use of the vacant lots.
