Creek cleanup highlights environmental concerns

Scott County, KY- Volunteers were given trash bags and garbage grabbers before they set out to try and clean up a mile along the South Elkhorn Creek in Scott County.
Bluegrass Conservancy and Bluegrass Greensource partnered to clean up the creek on Friday.
Volunteers had nice, cool temperatures as they waded through tall grass to pick up old soda cans, tires and other debris from the waterway.
One of the notable pieces of litter was what appeared to be an old Mylanta pill bottle.
Bob Riddle owns Riddle's Farm, which is situated on the 90-acre plot of land beside the creek.
He remembers a lot of wildlife, like ducks and frogs, when he was young growing up here.
"My wife and I, every spring, we pick up at least three bags of aluminum cans and plastic bottles from flood waters that are scattered all over the place," said Riddle.
Organizers hope to make the cleanup a recurring event to bring awareness to the importance of keeping the waterways and land clean.
