Crews battle fire at Lexington JIF plant

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The Lexington Fire Department believes a peanut roaster is what caused a fire this morning at the J.M. Smucker Co. Jif plant on Winchester Road.

Crews first got reports of the fire around 11 a.m. Monday. When the first firefighters arrived, heavy black smoke was pouring from the business.

The fire was contained to one area of the building, according to WKYT's Elizabeth Dorsett.

No one was injured.

Fire investigators say peanut dust in the roaster is highly combustible.
