CORBIN, Ky. - (WKYT) The Corbin Fire Department says they're still investigating what sparked a massive fire at the Corbin Ice Plant.
Several crews were called to the scene of a large factory fire in Whitley County early Monday morning.
Crews received the call around 1:10am at the Corbin Ice Company on Cumberland Falls Highway, just off I-75.
The fire chief tells us that by the time they arrived on the scene the fire was fully involved. He says they called in volunteer firefighters from four departments to help.
As they worked to get the fire out, the chief says the roof caved in, making it difficult to get to the fire, but they were able to knock it out in just a couple hours time.
According the the fire chief there is some anhydrous ammonia stored inside the building, but emergency management crews say the fire did not spread to that area and that the scene is safe.
Firefighters say they aren't sure at this point in time where the fire started.
Emergency crews had to shut down Cumberland Falls Highway between Maple and Bacon Street for a couple hours while they battled the fire, that road has since been re-opened but emergency crews are still asking people to avoid the area.
