According to police, a woman came face to face with a man, stealing her purse this morning.
Police say that the robbery happened on Deer Lake Drive in Lexington just before 5 o'clock.
The victim tells police that after confronting the man, he pointed a gun at her and claimed he was a police officer.
Police tell WKYT that the woman parked her vehicle on the side of the street, while she went on a walk with a friend.
"It just kind of opens your eyes that there is crime everywhere," says a neighbor, Sarah Smith.
Smith jogs through the area on a regular basis and despite what happened, she feels safe in her neighborhood.
"That kind of blows my mind. Just because in my mind, I would never try to impersonate somebody that was trying to help the community. And so then going and doing that, it kind of gives a different perspective of the police department," says Smith.
According to police the robber did escape with the woman's purse. No one was injured.
Police have not made any arrests.
