Crime alert in Laurel Co. after string of break-ins

Updated: Tue 8:01 PM, Mar 19, 2013

CORBIN, Ky. (WKYT) - People just off American Greeting Card Rd.say they're worried they could be the next victim.

"Some of the neighbors are talking about getting security systems, everyone is watching each other's backs," said Kenny Maynes of the Woodhill Dr. Estates area.

All because of a rash of car windows being busted out by thieves police think are targeting cars late at night...parked in dark places.

"We think if people would use additional lighting, turn on a light or install a light; thieves don't like lights," said Gilbert Acciardo with the Laurel Co. Sheriff's Office.

Police say they don't have any suspects...but they do know the kind of person they are looking for.

People supporting a drug habit.

"Taking high value items to someone dealing in drugs...to exchange that for the items," said Acciardo.

Police think Springfield Drive and the Woodhill Estates Drive areas were targeted with the crime happening about two or three in the morning.

"They got a laptop computer, bag of valuables, in another case nothing at all," said Acciardo.
