Crimestoppers: Police searching for an attempted robber

Updated: Tue 7:09 PM, Feb 19, 2013

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT)-Lexington Police need your help finding the man they say attempted to rob the clerk working at the Hampton Inn at Winchester Road and Elkhorn on December 8th of 2012.

"He's not masked, he doesn't cover his identity," explained Detective Robert Sarrantonio of the Lexington Police Department as he showed WKYT the surveillance video.

Sarrantonio says the would-be robber pretended to have a weapon, but the clerk challenged him.

"He put his hand in his pocket--to make it look like there was a weapon and demanded cash. After they had an argument, the clerk tells us he fled without getting any cash."

Police say because the guy took off, he's even more dangerous.

"Usually, when a suspect is unsuccessful in a robbery, they go commit one somewhere else."

Crimestoppers is offering a $1,000 cash reward for information leading to an arrest in this case. Call Crimestoppers today at 859-253-2020. It's a free call and it is anonymous.
