JESSAMINE COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A 6-month-old girl is recovering at home today after she was rushed to UK Hospital with a serious head injury, that sheriff's deputies say was caused by her father.

The Jessamine County Sheriff's Office says the infant's injuries were caused by Eyon McCann, 32, pressing hard on the baby's head. The infant reportedly suffered deep contusions but is expected to recover.

Deputies arrested McCann at the hospital Tuesday night for first degree child abuse of a victim under the age of 12. He was in court Wednesday morning, where he pleaded not guilty.

"Abuse cases are tough to investigate anytime, but when the victim is a child, it's just that much harder," said Chief Deputy Allen Peel, with the Jessamine County Sheriff's Office.

WKYT talked to the child's mother Wednesday afternoon moments after she returned home from the hospital with her daughter. She didn't want to comment, but said her daughter is doing "a lot better."

McCann is due back in court for a preliminary hearing on August 20. He declined our request for an interview Wednesday morning.
