Afternoon storms leave damage in parts of Kentucky

There were reports of damage across Kentucky from Thursday afternoon storms.

In Middlesboro, strong winds pulled apart a tent at a fireworks stand. A Big Lots store nearby had some roof damage. We're told cleanup started immediately and no injuries were reported.

In Knott County, crews spent the night trying to clear a mudslide. It covered Highway 15, near Carr Creek, closing the road. At last check, highway crews did not know how long it would take to clear the mess.

In Powell County, fire destroyed an outbuilding on Happy Top Road. Fire crews tell WKYT they believe a lightning strike caused it.

Dispatchers in Jackson County told us trees fell on highways. One also fell on a home in Tynes. There was also a report a roof had been blown off a home.

The Public Service Commission reports about 10,000 people are out of power in Kentucky. Most of those without electricity are in eastern Kentucky.
