Danville recruiting volunteers for debate hosting

DANVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A central Kentucky city wants volunteers to help it shine in the national spotlight during a vice presidential debate at Centre College on Oct. 11.

Danville-Boyle County Convention and Visitors Bureau Executive Director Jenifer Kirchner says her organization wants 80 volunteers to staff hospitality tables at five local hotels and the Debate Festival.

Kirchner told The Advocate-Messenger the goal is to make visitors "from all over the world" feel welcome as the eyes of the country focus on Vice President Joe Biden, the Democratic nominee, and U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan, the Wisconsin Republican and nominee.

Centre College Director of Student Life Ann Young said workers will be asked to do everything from answering phones or fetching miscellaneous items, to helping to prep and assist at the Debate Festival.
