Database lists casualties of Civil War battle

PERRYVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A digital database has been compiled listing soldiers who died, were wounded or went missing during the largest Civil War battle in Kentucky.

The database of more than 5,800 soldiers from the Battle of Perryville was put together with the help of Centre College students.

Kentucky Parks Commissioner Elaine Walker says the database is a great resource for family or military research.

Kurt Holman, manager of the Perryville Battlefield State Historic Site, has spent 30 years collecting names and details of the casualties. He contacted Centre College in Danville for assistance, and a computer science class taught by Christine Shannon took on the project.

The current database has 5,813 names. More research is needed to account for all 7,607 soldiers who died, were wounded or went missing during the 1862 battle.
