Daughter of Versailles mayor accused of selling drugs on UK campus

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The daughter of an elected Kentucky official is facing charges after, police say, she sold drugs on the UK campus.

Rachel Siegelman is facing three counts of trafficking in a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school and trafficking in a controlled substance first degree.

Siegelman is the daughter of Versailles mayor Fred Siegelman.

University of Kentucky Police began the investigation about a week and a half ago.

They say they received a tip about people selling drugs on campus.

"We want to send a message out that this wont be tolerated by anybody, especially non students coming onto campus to sell to students," said Chief Joe Monroe with UK police.

UK police detectives say they bought drugs from Siegelman on three occasions and arrested her Wednesday. They say she had marijuana and LSD on her at the time of her arrest.

We're told the same investigation led them to James Johnson. He was arrested on Tuesday and charged with trafficking and possession of a controlled substance.

A third person, Lauren Tack, was cited with possession of marijuana and released.

At her arraignment on Thursday Siegelman's lawyer entered a not guilty plea on her behalf. He also asked the judge to reduce her bond. Her father told the judge she would work for him if she was released.

The judge agreed to the reduction as long as she stayed in her parent's care.

No one from the Siegelman family wished to make a comment on the case.
