SCOTT COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A death investigation is underway in Scott County after a report of a body found in Elkhorn Creek.

We're told the sheriff's office received the call near Great Crossing Park just west of Georgetown around 11:30 a.m. Friday. Police now say that call came from a fisherman.

The Scott County coroner spent the day at the scene. State Police were also there. The Lexington Fire Department Special Operations team also assisted in the investigation. A fire department official says that the group is a dive team, and that they're there to help with the recovery of evidence, including a possible weapon.

By late afternoon investigators determined the victim is a male Hispanic and that it's likely the body had been there for at least 24 hours. But at this time they're not releasing a cause of death or if they believe the death to be suspicious.

The Scott County Sheriff's Office is now asking for the public's help to identify the man.

Anyone with information about the case should call (502) 863-7855.
