Kindergarten teacher killed in Bell County

PINEVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - Flags are half staff at Lone Jack School In Pineville where Lisa Mace taught for 19 years.

"There was a closeness, a genuine bond between Mrs. Mace and her students," said principal Kevin Wilder.

Friday morning, Mrs. Mace never made it to school. The kindergarten teacher was shot and killled in the dining room of her Pineville home. Police say her husband, 45-year-old Anthony Scott, shot himself after killing his 41-year-old wife. Relatives found them Friday morning.

"We've not had any issues with them as far as domestics, trying to find out why this happened," said Ky. State Police Trooper Shane Jacobs.

Lone Jack is a very small school. Many years, they've had just one kindergarten class. The principal says that every student in the building was touched by Lisa Mace.

With only 230 students and so many impacted, students and teachers were sent home and the first day of testing was postponed.

"Tears shed up and down the halls. She touched a lot of lives here," said Wilder.

The shooting happened in the Woodland Trails neighborhood, a place police say they rarely receive calls from. Neighbors are shocked the couple is dead and that their young children have lost their parents.

"They come down on Halloween. Trick or treating. They are nice people," said neighbor Mike Sproles.

Police say they still investigating what led to the shootings.
