Dog reunited with owner after Woodford County animal abuse case

WOODFORD COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) -- Workers at a humane society say something good has come out of an animal cruelty case.

Cheryll Ford has been charged with animal cruelty after investigators say they found dozens of animals, some of them dead at a farm in Woodford County.

The Woodford Humane Society says after seeing that story on TV, the owners of a dog named Hershey recognized Ford as a pet-sitter, who offered to watch the dog while they moved.

However, they say Ford left town and never gave the dog back.

They called the humane society asking for help workers there say Hershey was one of the animals found alive at the farm.

He was reunited with his owners Thursday.

"They were ecstatic, we were ecstatic, there were some tears flowing. It's really honestly one of the happiest endings that could come from a situation as horrific as this," said Amy Thomas from the Woodford Humane Society.

The Woodford Humane Society is still caring for 10 animals taken from the farm, and some of them are ready for adoption.
