Dog shot during home invasion; suspect on the loose

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WKYT) - Police say a man forced his way into a home overnight on Polsgrove Street, then shot the homeowner's dog several times after it attacked him.

We're told the suspect is still on the loose.

Police tell us early Friday morning, a man kicked in the door, stuck a gun in a young woman's face, and robbed her.

In the process, police say the woman's dog came to her protection, and that's when the robber shot it.

Police tell us the dog survived the shooting, and is now being treated for its wounds.

Were told by police that 23 year old Laurel Cartwright was watching television when her door was kicked open.

They say the man stuck the gun in her face and said, "give me everything you have."

The suspect left the house with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Frankfort Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.

"An individual with such acts is a danger and threat to society, so we want to try to solve this and apprehend him as quickly as possible," said Major Fred Deaton, with Frankfort Police.

Frankfort police urge anyone with information to call them. They want to remind you that you can stay anonymous.
