Dog shot in the head recovering with veterinarian

A dog who was shot in the head survived, and is now recovering with a London veterinarian after he was found in Rockcastle County. Now, many are helping in the dog, Lincoln's, recovery because of what viewers saw on WKYT.

Dr. Keaton Smith, the vet caring for Lincoln, believes the dog had been shot running away, "but the bullet actually went in the back of his head and came out of his face."

The horrific injury has left Lincoln looking like as Dr. Keaton Smith says a Franken dog. She also says a surgery to literally put part of his had back togeher was successful.

"In two weeks we'll be able to take his sutures and staples out and I belive he'll be fine."

After our story aired Wednesday the vet and other organizations saw an enormous outreach of phone calls...people wating to help Lincoln.

Lincoln's vet bills could cost around $15,000. So far Smith says they have received from five to six individuals about $170.

Amber's Dog Salon is also taking up donations and through Kentucky Save, which rescued Lincoln, about half the cost has been covered. They hope after he heals up...he'll be adopted. It could be up to three weeks before Lincoln is adopted by the Kentucky Save and Homeward Bound organizations. If you would like to adopt Lincoln...visit the www.kentuckysave.com link on the page for more information.
