Victim's daughter wants accused killer to die in prison

John Payne

Richmond Police say 37-year-old John Payne admitted to killing his mother, 55-year-old Cornelia 'Gayle' Mullins and his fiancee', 32-year-old Meredith King. Police found the women's bodies over the weekend.

Monday morning the family of one of the victim's was in court as Payne entered a not guilty plea. "I hope he spends the rest of his life in jail. I hope he dies there because he took my mom from me" said 14-year-old Saylene Benny, Meredith King's daughter.

King's sister says the entire family is having a hard time dealing with the tragedy. "There was no cause for it. No one deserves what has happened to my sister or his mother. Why he did that, I don't know" said Stephanie King Bays.

Police say they were looking for Payne for failing to comply with his sex offender registration when they found him Saturday in a Berea hotel. Police say once they got on scene he told them he had shot and killed his mother and fiancee two days before.

Police say they found the women's bodies at Mullins' home on Hillsdale Avenue.

Payne's next court appearance is December 15. Meredith King's family says they'll be there, to see him face to face.

Meredith King's funeral is set for Tuesday in Richmond. Cornellia Mullins is originally from Chicago, her family is still making arrangements.
