MADISON COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) – Five months later and Shawna Ingram still relives the pain of the day her niece, 25 year old Britta Richmond, died in a car crash just outside
of Winchester on Boonesboro Road.

"The hopelessness, the longing, the tears," said Ingram.

Shawna says the entire town of Berea knew her niece, who was studying to be a nurse.

Initially, because of conflicting witness statements, investigators faulted Britta for the crash, citing a combination of distracted driving and speeding.

"To think that she was negligent in her responsibility as a driver, to cause the injury of someone else and ultimately cause her own death, it was really hard to wrap our minds around that," she said.

Toxicology and a reenactment of the fatal crash now paints a different picture One that's led to the driver of the other vehicle, 28 year old Holly Britz, to be charged with murder.

"Mentally and physically we are so broken, but spiritually we're intact because we feel that we will see her again."

Both Britz and another man were injured in the crash.

Britz is also charged with first-degree assault and other charges.
